Mostly with my mates, especially if they are better than me but also with those that are less good. We do so because it is fun and because it is always interesting in getting a new angle on your game.

I also do this with others that I don't know so well but the thing is that I don't usually bring up my strengths or the things I do in tight spots, which are more likely to be the things that decide the game when I next play them. So they aren't getting that much.

but against the people we most want to beat (who are NOT usually your mates (except in one case and our relationship is just like that sometimes)) we are cut throat. No discussion of games except in the most guarded of fashion, and no ground given once we are out on the court. But there are only a couple of guys like that in the comps that I go to and most of them started it!

It is a fh drive which is sometimes near to a kill shot Nor is yr feeder giving you a long ball that needs looping. (He needs to put more backspin on the long ball)
however as an exercise of short recieve followed by fh drive its not too bad. I notice that sometimes you try to recover from the short ball BEFORE you complete. You need to stay in the shot more but recover faster
Author: Honey
Subject: footwork and opening loops
Posted: 07 September 2010 at 20:22

Definitely not the rubber. Listen to your contact sound, its way too heavy most of the time which is why your not getting much spin.

In my opinion an opening loop should be slower and spinnier. Judge the amount of speed you use by how good your footwork is. By hitting it hard on opening (especially from the BH corner) you are only letting your opponent get in a well placed block and it will fly past you. Play the ball slower and spinnier and you give yourself time to move your feet to the next shot and your ready for it anywhere.

Obviously though variation is the key, but I think the above is fundamentals.

I am pretty good at the above, but I am so fixed on it sometimes that better players adjust to it, no matter how spinny it is.

Variation, keep them guessing.

By the way - what you do in the video is good, looks clean and sharp, and for the majority you are very consistent. But IMO whilst what you are doing is goodif you want a better opening loop, work on slowing it down and spinning it up. Your good at hitting, work on something else. Imagine how good you could be Tuan if you could really spin one up (my way) then hit through one (you already can from your vid) and then all of the in-between spins/speeds.

For me goal of first few loops is to force opponent to block high or slow, and then you can flat kill it or go for wide angle. Although I like flat killing (bat open at around 80-90 degrees and go through ball), I'm pretty sure that european pro's rarely go for flat kill, with their too fast rubbers they will instead go over the ball with more horizontal bat (there is lot of this in Boll's training video).

Generally, controlling spin/speed is done by bat angle, bat speed, and sinking the ball into sponge(duration of contact with ball), use body to sink more. For more spin sink more and open bat more, for point winning (without flat kill) go for shorter contact and closer bat.
Btw, Primorac off- is not so good for flat hitting ;)
