Was doing some short game work with oneply last night.

My pushing is ok, but I always lean in with my right food for either FH or BH push.

Shouldn't I be stepping in with my R-foot for FH and my L-foot for BH? (right handed)

I figure that because I'm right handed, I step in with my right foot, giving me better reach. But after a short push to BH and then long push to BH I am faced with a big movement to open up with my FH from BH corner.

This is something that is very ingrained with me (even more so than my dodgy grip!), so I need to see what you guys think to see if its worth putting the effort in to correct it, which I'm willing to do if it seems worth it (after Doncaster GP!)

no you're doing it right. it's right foot only for you. for any push that's over the table and short, it's right foot in. =)

The key thing is to practice springing back off the foot that goes in, such that you are ready just before opp makes his return. Easy to understand, less easy to do well.

I was taught by more than one coach that it's always right foot (for right handed players) regardless of location of ball (to fh or bh).

Stellan Bengtsson added that you need to plant your foot before striking the flip/push.  He also added (ala ppp) that you need to spring back very quickly, especially from flip.

yep, right foot under the table, remember that your weight is on it, allowing you to push back out with a pivot on yr left foot, meaning you will be ready to attack. Also, your right arm is the same side as your right leg, meaning you can get nearer to the ball, if you led with your left, and played with your right, you are using the two most extreme parts of your body. Touch your left toes with your left hand, you right toes with your right hand. Now try right hand touching left foot, and you will see what I mean.
Ultimately, right leg under the table for a right handed player means you can get nearer to the net, thus giving you more control over the ball.

Yep, you know what's right  Evenstevens, Derrick sorts all this stuff out for a player better than anyone I have ever known. And what is sorted out initially, Footwork/ recovery/ serves/ usually leads on to a higher level of play. What I have loved about DM over the years I have worked with him, is his lack of obsession with technique, In Derricks school  of thought, technique does not matter, as long as you follow the main principles.

I agree, Honey I know how much you enjoy table tennis and work at it, go see DM; either visit Lea Green on a Thursday? (45 mins in car for you) or far better -imo- go to one of the camps as suggested (edit I was going to go up in December, but booked the wrong days off). He's very personable, knows his stuff and communicates it very very well; worth a trip up for a chat and if you want to work on something (or ask somehting specific) just ask him.

My problem is that after executing a beautiful push with the right leg in I lazily stay there and admire it.  Unhappy

That's a problem with almost every shot for me. I'm so used to having to see so many balls miss or dump into the net that when one makes it, I just kind of stare and admire it. Then I don't move and get killed on the next ball. LOL
