Not as such. I think its more like an internet phone call, and I dont think there is any initial outlaw on the cost once you have purchased the handset( correct me if im wrong). I have heard about rumours of it being stopped though as it could take over from phone companies |

It's a free and very reliable system. You don't even need to purchase a handset, just use the PC mic and speaker. You can download the software for free. You just have to register with Skype for a unique username, which is also free. Only call to fixed lines cost money |

yeah, it offers good video calls, both video and audio. i used it for a while and satisfy with it.

Skype to Skype calls are free, anywhere, anytime. Calls to other countries' landlines are ridiculous cheap, if you are using pay as you go. There is a deal where you can pay $10 a month for unlimited calls, but I do not call so much to need this plan. As Haggisv stated, you can use your computer mic and speakers to avoid using headset. You can also use earbud headphones and the computer mic. Sypke was priceless to me when I was in the Middle East for extended periods of time. I called often and never exceeeded $10 a month usage.
